Red Velvet for Valentines

I made a red velvet heart cake for my boyfriend for Valentines day. I made cupcakes with the extra cake batter. Now I've never had red velvet cake so I wasn't so sure how it'd turn out. But the cake was actually really good. I don't even know how to describe it. I'd say it's a mix of cocoa, vanilla, and almond flavoring. Red Velvet cake is always iced with Cream Cheese icing, I'm sorry but that sounds so disgusting! But surprisingly enough it has a real subtle sweet taste. So I am happy overall.
